The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
On September the 8th, we celebrate the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saints Joachim and Anne. Her birth is one of only three celebrated by the Catholic Church, along with those of Jesus and Saint John the Baptist.
Unable to have children, Joachim and Anne prayed and fasted, hoping that God might send them a child. An angel appeared to Anne and told her: “The Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth, and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world.”
Mary was conceived and born free from original sin, and was born full of grace. She remained pure from all personal sin throughout her whole life.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for Us.
