Library

General information:

    Library time is a scheduled time for each grade.

  • K-4 have Library skills classes to support the reference/research curriculum for their grade levels. These skills include alphabetizing to the third letter, parts of a book, use of the dictionary, atlas, and encyclopedia.
  • Kindergarten has story time and becomes familiar with the Library during the first semester. Beginning in March, they are taught the procedure for checking out books.
    Library Visits:
  • Students in K-8 have regularly scheduled visits. Books may be checked out during this visits.
  • Extra time is scheduled by class teachers if they need to bring in their students for research.
  • Students may use the Library for research or book check-out at any time with the permission of their teacher and the Library Staff.
  • As long as the center is free, students are welcome to wander in and browse, relax and read.
    General checkout:
  • Kindergarten can check out one book for a two-week period starting in March.
  • Grades 1-3 may check out one book for a two-week period.
  • Grade 4-8 may check out two books for a two-week period.
  • Exceptions may be made for projects. A book may be renewed as needed unless it has been requested by another student.
  • Faculty/Staff may check out materials for an indefinite period unless there has been another request for that material.
    Fines: There is a 5 cents per book per day fine. Fines are not levied for holidays or student absences due to illness.

Our Library has:

  • An exciting collection of over 9000 books, which is weeded and updated each year.
  • A Magazine Corner - with National Geographic for Kids, National Geographic World, Discover for Kids, Time for Kids, Georgia, Scholastic News, and Sports Illustrated for Kids.
  • Networked Computer
  • Accelerated Reader Quizzes in the Computer Lab

Special Events:

  • Book Fair: Our Book Fair is in October. Please do all you can to make this a success, as proceeds from the Fair goes towards the media center fund. Funds from this year helped us with a purchase of a remote scanner for the library books.
  • Dr. Seuss Day in February.

Library Behavior:

  • All school rules and expectations about behavior will apply to the Media Center.
  • Arrive and leave quietly.
  • The atmosphere of the Media Center is one of work and study. Scholarly activities only; no visiting with friends.
